If you're planning a holiday anywhere along Portugal's coast — from the Algarve up to Lisbon — and you want one memorable meal that isn't in a restaurant, a private chef service is the answer. I've been cooking for private clients across this entire stretch for years, and the demand has grown massively. People rent beautiful villas, stunning Airbnbs, and oceanfront properties, then realise they don't want to spend every evening fighting for restaurant reservations.
That's where I come in. My private chef service covers everything from the Algarve to Lisbon — Lagos, Albufeira, Vilamoura, Faro, Tavira, the Arrábida coast, Setúbal, and the full Lisbon and Cascais region. I bring the ingredients, cook the dinner, serve it, and clean up. You don't leave the villa.
Why People Are Booking Private Chefs Along the Coast
Portugal's southern coast has become one of Europe's top holiday destinations, and the accommodation has caught up — there are some spectacular rental properties between the Algarve and Lisbon. What hasn't caught up is the private dining scene. Most visitors default to restaurants, which are fine for a casual lunch, but for a special night — an anniversary, a birthday, a family reunion — you want something better than a noisy terrace in Albufeira's old town.
A private chef service changes the dynamic completely. You stay at your villa with the pool and the view and the sunset, and the food comes to you. Not takeaway. Not a caterer with foil trays. A working chef who builds a custom menu, sources fresh ingredients from local markets, cooks everything in your kitchen, plates it properly, and serves it at your table.
I've cooked at clifftop villas in Lagos overlooking the Atlantic. I've served seven-course dinners at wine estates in the Alentejo. I've done birthday celebrations at beachfront properties in Vilamoura and intimate anniversaries at apartments in Cascais. The setting changes. The standard doesn't.
What the Service Includes
When you book a private chef service from the Algarve to Lisbon with me, here's what actually happens:
- Menu consultation — We talk about your group, dietary needs, preferences, and the occasion. I build a custom menu around what your guests will love, not a fixed list you pick from.
- Ingredient sourcing — I shop local markets the morning of your dinner. In the Algarve, that means fish straight off the boats. Near Lisbon, it's Mercado da Ribeira or the Cascais market. The food is only as good as what goes into it.
- Cooking and service — I arrive 1-2 hours before dinner, set up in your kitchen, and cook everything fresh. Multi-course dinner, professionally plated, served at your pace.
- Full cleanup — When the last course is done and you're sitting back with a glass of wine, I clean the kitchen and leave it as I found it. You don't touch a dish.
Where I Cover — From Lagos to Lisbon
My service area runs the full length of Portugal's western and southern coast. That's a lot of ground, but it's the coastline where most holiday rentals sit, and it's the route I know inside out.
The Algarve: Lagos, Portimão, Albufeira, Vilamoura, Quinta do Lago, Vale do Lobo, Faro, Olhão, Tavira. Whether you're in a golf resort villa or a cliff-edge rental, this is where the biggest demand sits between May and October.
Alentejo Coast: Comporta, Melides, Porto Covo. This stretch has become Portugal's version of the Hamptons — minimalist design houses, rice paddies, and empty beaches. The villas here are stunning, and they all have proper kitchens.
Setúbal and Arrábida: The seafood capital of Portugal. I source grilled fish, percebes, and razor clams from the Setúbal market when I'm cooking in this area. The Arrábida Natural Park makes for an incredible backdrop to an outdoor dinner.
Lisbon, Cascais, Sintra, Estoril, Ericeira: My home base. This is where I cook most often — apartments in Chiado, villas in Cascais, surf houses in Ericeira, palaces in Sintra. The full range.
What Kind of Food?
My background is Australian-Asian fusion — I spent 20 years cooking across Australia, Southeast Asia, and Europe before opening my restaurant in Lisbon. But for private chef bookings, the menu is entirely built around you. Some of the most popular requests I get along the coast:
- Portuguese seafood feast — Built around whatever's freshest that morning. Think grilled prawns, octopus carpaccio, bacalhau, cataplana, and a dessert of pastéis de nata with a twist.
- Fusion tasting menu — 5 or 7 courses of Australian-Asian fusion. Prawn ceviche with wasabi peas, gyoza with truffle ponzu, 36-hour pork belly with lime caramel. This is my signature style.
- Family-style sharing — Big platters down the middle of the table. Perfect for groups of 15-20 at a villa. More relaxed, same quality.
- Dietary-specific menus — Fully vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, or mixed groups where everyone has different needs. I handle it all without making it feel like a compromise.

Get Your Free QuoteHow Much Does a Private Chef Cost for an Algarve Villa?
My private chef service starts from €85 per person. That covers the custom menu, all ingredients, cooking, service, and cleanup. For the Algarve and locations outside the Lisbon area, a travel supplement may apply depending on distance — but I'll always be upfront about that in your quote.
To put that in perspective: a decent restaurant dinner for a group of 10 in the Algarve runs €60-€90 per head easily, and you're sharing the space with strangers, limited to set times, and stuck with whatever's on the menu. For similar money — sometimes less — you get a private, custom experience at your own table with no compromises.
Larger groups actually bring the per-head cost down further. A villa dinner for 20 people is more efficient than one for 6, so the economics work well for big holiday gatherings.
When to Book
Summer in the Algarve is peak season. If you're travelling between June and September, book your private chef service as early as you can — ideally two to four weeks out. I can sometimes accommodate shorter notice, but the earlier you reach out, the more flexibility we both have with dates and menu planning.
Shoulder season (April-May and October-November) is actually when I love cooking in the Algarve most. The produce is incredible, the weather is warm without being brutal, and the villas are quieter. If your dates are flexible, consider it.
The Practical Details
A few things people always ask about:
- Kitchen requirements: I work with whatever you've got. Most holiday rental kitchens are fine. If the villa has a basic setup, I bring additional equipment. If it has a serious kitchen, even better.
- Wine: I can recommend and source Portuguese wines to pair with your menu, or you can provide your own. Both work.
- Group size: From intimate dinners for 2 up to events for 50+. The style adapts — plated courses for smaller groups, family-style or stations for larger ones.
- Kids: Always welcome. I build separate kids' menus that aren't just chicken nuggets (unless that's what they want).
The whole point of a private chef service from the Algarve to Lisbon is that you don't have to think about logistics. You tell me the date, location, and guest count. I handle the rest.
